| City of Crest Hill | East Wastewater Treatment Plant, Nitrification Tower Media Replacement
The City of Crest Hill’s East Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is a fixed film media plant with two roughing towers and one nitrifying tower. In 2004, the nitrifying tower media had reached its design life and was in need of replacement. The tower was sixty feet in diameter and the media was twenty-four feet deep with a total volume of 68,000 cubic feet of media. This project included replacing the media and providing necessary maintenance to the tower.

Construction began in August 2004 and was completed in November 2004. By removing the main component in converting ammonia into nitrates, coordination with the plant operators was imperative to modify the treatment process to continue to meet effluent limits during construction. By working with the contractor and the City, the project was successfully completed, and treatment limits were maintained throughout construction.
Another example of how proactive team work and planning provide cost-effective and sustainable solutions for our clients.
