| Village of Plainfield | 2007 MFT Street Improvements
Robert E. Hamilton Consulting Engineers P.C. (REH) prepared the 2007 Motor Fuel Tax Street Improvement program for the Village of Plainfield. The project consisted of ten lane miles of roadway resurfacing within the Whispering Creek and Harvest Glen Subdivisions. The maintenance section encompassed 92,000 square yards of recycled hot mix asphalt by heater scarification method, 10,000 tons of hot mix asphalt and other miscellaneous items.
The Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Construction Costs of $1,006,000.00 was within 0.5% of the average value of the bids submitted among five contractors. The completed project was 1.7% below the awarded contract amount of $930,000 which yielded a cost savings of $16,000.00.
Our firm prepared an aggressive project timeline to achieve our client’s needs. We anticipated road blocks such as section approval delays and summer festival conflicts, yet we succeeded with a project completion two weeks prior to the contract date. The project highlighted milestones were as follows:
Village Board Section Approval: May 21, 2007
IDOT Proposal Approval: May 24, 2007
Project Bid Opening: June 19, 2007
Village Board Award: July 2, 2007
IDOT Contract Approval: July 19, 2007
Construction Began: August 6, 2007
Construction Completion: August 23, 2007
Contract Completion Date: September 7, 2007
As a successful team REH staff, the Village of Plainfield Public Works Staff Engineer, Street Department, and the contractors worked together, yet we have proven that Leadership depends on the ability to inspire - to ensure that project members are motivated on both the individual and team levels to deliver as promised within the desired project management culture.
